Why permissions matter
Android permissions determine what an app can access on your device. The appropriate permissions depend on the app's actual functions, so review them rather than accepting them automatically.
What to review
- Camera, microphone and location access.
- Contacts, files and media access.
- Notifications and other device access.
- The privacy policy describing collection, use and sharing of information.
Red flags
Be cautious when an app asks for access that appears unrelated to its purpose, when privacy information is missing, or when a download page uses pressure tactics to make you continue quickly.
Protect your account
Use strong, unique passwords where accounts are supported, enable available security controls, and do not share one-time passwords or sensitive credentials with people claiming to provide support.
